• Home Depot is selling the frame of a quaint 540 square-feet "Getaway Pad" for $43,832.
  • The ADU's listing is shown complete with one bedroom and a spiral staircase to an optional deck.
  • But the unit will cost you more to complete the design with windows, doors, and other finishings.

A listing for a $44,000 tiny home frame is generating buzz for its sleek design — but it'll cost far more to get the unit move-in ready.

Home Depot is selling a 540 square-feet "Getaway Pad" from PLUS 1 Homes, an "accessory dwelling unit" that could go in your backyard with the proper permits. In the product picture, it features a bedroom and a spiral staircase that leads to a roof deck.

While the image of the product is shown complete with windows and doors — you're going to have to pay extra for those additions.

The product details on Home Depot's website specify that the $43,832 price-tag includes the steel structure and the parts needed for assembly. You'll have to pay many thousands more to finish the home with doors, windows, electrical plumbing, and other details. And the deck is also an upgrade option, per the website.

As with most projects like this, you'll also need to get permission from local zoning councils to build the ADU on your property. Actually assembling the project may also require assistance — whether it's from a construction service or some friends and family, Insider has previously reported

The steel frame will not be impacted by termites, mold, rodents, and bugs, per the Plus 1 Homes product details. The website also states the structure is fire resistant and can withstand inclement weather conditions, including cyclones, and hurricanes.

Tiny homes and accessory dwelling units have been gaining newfound interest over the last year. As Gen Z and millennial homebuyers face a competitive housing market — with limited housing and high mortgage rates — a tiny home may be a more affordable alternative.

And if the home from Home Depot is out of your price range, Amazon sells homes in a range of sizes and prices, from $1,000 to $100,000.
