Xfinity customers have taken to social media to sound the alarm about a massive internet outage on Tuesday.

On Twitter, an Xfinity support employee told one customer: "We are currently having connection concerns around the nation, our network team is working hard toward a resolution."

Xfinity is Comcast's division dedicated to consumer cable television, telephone, and internet and wireless service. Comcast had a total of 26.5 million internet customers in 2018. Comcast first dove into the internet service business in 1996, attracting controversy over its use of data caps.

Social media users who reported experiencing outages were based all around the country. Attempts to ring up Xfinity's customer service line resulted in a busy signal or an immediate disconnect. Customers also reported being unable to access the internet provider's mobile app, or the company's outage map.

Xfinity did not immediately respond to Insider's query about the cause of the outage.

Other customers who lost internet looked to the silver lining of having a day off of work or school.
