The jury has reached a verdict in Derek Chauvin's murder trial, one day after closing arguments.

The verdict will be read between 4:30 and 5 p.m. ET.

Chauvin has been charged with second-degree unintentional murder, third-degree murder, and second-degree manslaughter in the death of George Floyd.

Floyd, a Black man, was declared dead in May 2020 after Chauvin, a then-Minneapolis Police officer, knelt on his neck for about nine minutes during an arrest. Video from the arrest showed Floyd saying he couldn't breathe multiple times.

The jury in the case, made up of seven women and five men who range in age from their 20s to 60s, deliberated for about 10-and-a-half hours before reaching a verdict, the Associated Press reported.

The jury heard emotional testimony and watched video of the arrest during the three-week trial. Chauvin invoked his Fifth Ammendment right to not testify in the trial.

The other three police officers involved in Floyd's arrest - Thomas Lane, Tou Thao, and J. Alexander Kueng - face their own trial in August on charges of aiding and abetting Floyd's death.

Floyd's killing sparked months of racial justice protests worldwide, and Minneapolis officials have said they have prepared for possible unrest following a verdict in the case.
