The US Supreme Court announced Friday that it will review a shocking decision made by the Colorado Supreme Court to bar former President Donald Trump from the state's ballot.

Oral argument on the matter is now set for February 8, 2024, the court announced in response to a petition to hear the decision, which deemed Trump ineligible to run due to his involvement in the January 6, 2021, Capitol riot.

Trump has asked the court to overturn the ruling.

Meanwhile, states including Maine and Massachusetts have put forth their own efforts to bar Trump from ballots, while more than two dozen other states have signaled their support for Trump in a letter to the court submitted Friday.

The case ultimately sets up the Supreme Court — currently comprised of three Trump appointees — to play a major role in the election.
