More than 50,000 people finished the New York City Marathon on Sunday, and there were a bunch of Wall Streeters in the mix.
The annual marathon, which courses through all five of New York’s boroughs, is the largest in the world and dates back to 1970.
This year, employees from financial-services firms including Deutsche Bank, Goldman Sachs, and startup stock exchange IEX, turned out for the event.
Here’s a look at some of this year’s runners who hail from the Street.
Jacqueline Bennett, JPMorgan
Title: Investment banker
Experience: "I'm originally from Perth, Australia, and my first NYC Marathon was transformative. I finished in 3 hours 39 minutes and raised over $5700 to the Alzheimer's Research Foundation."
Jonathan Walbridge, Macquarie
Title: Managing Director
Experience: "This is my fifth New York City Marathon, and I am happy to be running at sea level after recently living in Mexico City, which is at a 7,400 foot altitude."
Allison Bishop, IEX
Title: Quantitative Researcher
Experience: "This was a my second NYC marathon, and I'm already inspired to run again next year! The people who came out to cheer in the rain, the runners of all paces and ages, and the company of my colleague Prerak kept my spirits up the whole time. It is amazing to see the city come together every year in such a joyous event."
Anna Johnsen, JPMorgan
Title: Investment Banker
Experience: "This was my first marathon and the experience was amazing! The crowds were awesome and carried me through the entire race - from running off the Verrazano Bridge into Brooklyn to the finish in Central Park.
I qualified for the 2017 marathon through New York Road Runners' 9 + 1 program - meaning I volunteered for 1 and ran 9 qualifying races during 2016 to gain automatic entry for the marathon this year."
Daniel Cavalli, Credit Suisse
Title: Head of Latin America financial institutions
Experience: "I have been running marathons (including a few NYC Marathons) and other races for years. I run for the New York Road Runners' charity, Team for Kids, which raises funds to support NYRR youth programs. Race day, and race weekend for that matter, is absolutely amazing. I'm a bit anxious until the gun goes off, then kind of soothe into peace and just high five with kids along the way until the end."
Jonathon Laurie, Macquarie
Title: Associate Director
Experience: "I have run every NYC marathon since 2011 and ran this year as part of the sub-elite program, which includes the next 50 fastest runners not part of the professional athlete field."
Jeremy Zirin, UBS
Title: Chief investment officer of UBS Wealth Management
Experience: "There is nothing like the New York City Marathon. It wasn't the easiest day to run 26.2 miles given the very high humidity, but the crowd support was unbelievable from start to finish. This was my 8th marathon, and the third time that I've completed New York, and I have never pushed myself harder in any of my prior marathons (and the pain in my quads is proof!)."
Prerak Sanghvi, IEX
Title: Software development lead
Experience: "This was my third consecutive NYC marathon, and a magical experience yet again. The temperature was perfect, and even the slight drizzle did not detract from the overall experience.
Running a full marathon is always tough, and this is where the NYC marathon spectators make it truly special. The moniker "world's largest block party" is not far from the truth, and every moment of self-doubt was replaced by a moment of resurgence derived from the sheer energy of the crowd. I was pleasantly surprised to find as many or even more spectators on the course than in the years past, given potential security issues for an event of this size."
Damian Secen, Macquarie
Title: Senior Managing Director
Experience: "I am excited to run my first NYC marathon. Life clearly begins at 45."
Deutsche Bank
12 runners from Deutsche Bank, the German-based financial services firm, ran alongside 18-year old Zoe North, a cerebral palsy survivor, according to a press representative for the firm. It's the team's second marathon with North.
