Though many major sports and entertainment events have been cancelled recently due to preventive measures being taken to help stop the spread of coronavirus, World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) has decided to go forward with its planned Wrestlemania 36 event. With that said, the annual wrestling competition is being produced with some key restrictions in place, including the use of pre-taped matches and a closed-set venue without any audience members in attendance.
Wrestlemania matches are traditionally aired live, but as a result of increased limitations placed on mass gatherings, the WWE pre-recorded this year’s show on March 25 and March 26. The WWE Performance Center in Orlando, Florida has been used as the primary location, though the show will feature additional venues as well. All of the tapings were conducted without spectators.
The two-night broadcast will begin on April 4 at 7 p.m. ET with three-time Super Bowl champ Rob Gronkowski as the host. The main event will feature current WWE Champion Brock Lesnar defending his title against Drew McIntyre. Other big names in wrestling set to appear in matches include John Cena, Goldberg, and The Undertaker.
