Elon Musk welcomed comparisons between himself and the “Simpsons” supervillain Hank Scorpio on Twitter on Wednesday.
In response to a post that said “we all know” Musk is the character, the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX replied:
Just because he has a flamethrower and I have a flamethrower doesn’t mean … um … ok fine I’m Hank Scorpio

Hank Scorpio is a supervillain in the animated sitcom ‘The Simpsons.”
He appears in the episode "You Only Move Twice," in which the Simpson family relocates to an idyllic town when Homer gets a new job, only for Homer to discover that his new boss, Scorpio, is a maniacal villain hell-bent on taking over the world.
During the final scenes of the episode, Scorpio is seen firing a flamethrower at enemies.
Musk was previously compared to Scorpio in 2018 when he started selling a flamethrower, jokingly called the Not-a-Flamethrower. The flamethrower sold 20,000 units for a total close to $10 million.
Musk was criticized by US politicians for creating the device, prompting him to announce every flamethrower would be shipped with "a complimentary boring fire extinguisher."
The machine's tongue-in-check name was a response to shipping and customs regulations that restrict the transport of anything called a flamethrower.
Musk has previously been compared to other supervillains such as the Superman nemesis Lex Luthor, and he has frequently been the subject of jokes about secretly being a supervillain thanks to his innovative, often wacky devices and gadgets, such as the Not-a-Flamethrower and the new Tesla Cybertruck.
A Washington Post article suggested Musk had a "dark side" and shared interests with Bond villains such as Dominic Greene in "Quantum of Solace," who used environmentalism as a cover, and Ernst Stavro Blofeld, for his interest in outer space.
