If you bought dinnerware from Ikea recently, you might be at risk for scalding.

The Swedish furniture giant is in the middle of recalling two lines of bowls, plates, and mugs, after a number of consumers around the world reported burns.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission – the federal entity tasked with overseeing product recalls – currently lists Ikea's Heroisk and Talrika plateware lines among its recalls. This particular recall began May 19 and affects 148,000 items in the United States. The CPSC also noted that 11,400 such plates and bowls were sold in Canada.

The problem boils down to the plateware becoming brittle and breaking, causing scalding hot food or liquid to spill out. The CPSC's recall notice said that Ikea is now "aware of 123 reports of breakage worldwide, including four reports of injuries, two of which required medical attention." One of those incidents occurred in the US, although that did not result in any injuries.

Ikea didn't immediately respond to Insider's request for comment.

Previous Ikea recalls include cribs over suffocation risks, high chairs due to fall hazards, a number of dressers after a series of fatalities.

Consumers who bought Heroisk and Talrika items can call Ikea at 888-966-4532 or access the product recalls section at the bottom of the furniture giant's website.

"Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled bowls, plates, and mugs and return them to any IKEA store for a full refund," the CPSC recall announcement said.
