A tornado has touched down just west of downtown Atlanta, and the National Weather Service is warning residents to take shelter

A tornado touched down just west of Atlanta, Georgia, on Monday morning, and the National Weather Service has asked residents to seek shelter.

NWS Atlanta issued a tornado warning in Atlanta and East Point, Georgia, and said penny-sized hail could also hit.

ABC 33/40 News meteorologist Taylor Sarallo said on Twitter that the tornado is moving through "very populated areas" and "directly towards Atlanta."
