There are 27 million refugees around the world. As of April 30, just 10,742 refugees had been given a permanent home in the US this year.

They often leave their home countries with little more than the clothes on their back — leaving behind homes, treasured possessions, careers, and loved ones to embark on a long and uncertain journey to safety. 

Some refugees will remain in limbo for years.
