Former President Donald Trump would be allowed to join celebrity video-app Cameo, the company's CEO Steven Galanis said in an interview with "Axios on HBO" yesterday.
"Trump has done nothing on our platform to violate our terms of service," Galanis said – although the former president has never joined the platform.
The app allows users to pay for personalized videos from celebrities.
Other social networking sites suspended Trump following the deadly siege on the US Capitol in January. Twitter permanently suspended Trump's account citing "the risk of further incitement of violence."
Earlier this month, Facebook's Oversight Board decided to uphold Trump's suspension from its platform. Facebook said it would review the decision in six months.
Cameo has 40,000 "creators" on its platform, with the majority being TV stars or athletes. The app surged in popularity during the pandemic when most entertainment stars were out of work, according to Axios.
Galanis said political fundraising was allowed on Cameo last year for the first time.
He said that there were no active political candidates on the app, and that political fundraising videos made up less than 1% of the company's total revenue in 2020. Galanis said he had no plans to grow this part of the business.
"It took us two and a half years to get the compliance set up to actually do this the right way," Galanis said. "I don't think that it's gonna be a priority for us to do political fundraising abroad."
