Tom Holland makes his first public appearance since Spider-Man became embattled in ongoing talks between Sony and Marvel: ‘It’s been a crazy week’

Tom Holland knows that fans are worried that his beloved Spider-Man character could leave the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and he wants them to know he’s thinking of them.

“It’s been a crazy week, but I want to let you know I’m grateful from the bottom of my heart. I love you 3,000,” said Holland Saturday morning at Disney’s D23 Expo at the Anaheim Convention Center in Anaheim, California.

Holland appeared at the Walt Disney Studios’ presentation for its upcoming movies. The “Spider-Man: Far From Home” actor was in attendance to promote next year’s Pixar movie, “Onward,” in which he’ll star alongside Chris Pratt.

"It's been five amazing years. I've had the time of my life," Holland told Entertainment Weekly after the Disney Studios' panel.

"Who knows what the future holds? But all I know is that I'm going to continue playing Spider-Man and having the time of my life," he continued. "It's going to be so fun, however we choose to do it. The future for Spider-Man will be different, but it will be equally as awesome and amazing, and we'll find new ways to make it even cooler."

On Tuesday, Deadline reported Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures couldn't agree on new terms to co-produce future movies. In a statement to our sister site, Business Insider, Sony Pictures said much of the news about Spider-Man had "mischaracterized" the company's recent discussions with Marvel and the studio's president Kevin Feige moving forward.

"We are disappointed, but respect Disney's decision not to have him continue as a lead producer of our next live action Spider-Man film. We hope this might change in the future, but understand that the many new responsibilities that Disney has given him - including all their newly added Marvel properties - do not allow time for him to work on IP they do not own," Sony Pictures said.

If some of that's confusing to you, what you need to know is that Sony Pictures has the rights to distribute and make Spider-Man movies.

In 2015, the studio partnered with Disney and Marvel Studios (who puts out the "Avengers" movies, "Guardians of the Galaxy," etc.) to produce the last two Spider-Man movies. Meanwhile, Marvel Studios was able to use Spidey in the MCU (aka "Captain America: Civil War" and the last two "Avengers" movies).

A potential fallout between Marvel and Sony doesn't sound great for either company when it comes to the character moving forward. But Jon Favreau, who plays Iron Man's right-hand man, Happy Hogan, and the love interest of Aunt May (Spidey's aunt), is hopeful Spidey will stay in the MCU.

In an interview with ET's Ash Crossan at D23 Expo on Friday, Favreau said he's "cautiously optimistic" that everything will work out, eventually.

"What happens to Happy and May? Well, I guess Happy's single again," said Favreau of what happens to his character if Spidey is out of the MCU, half jokingly.

"You know, it's still early days," Favreau said more seriously about the Sony/Marvel Spider-Man deal. "As a fan, I'm cautiously hopeful that something will come together because I think all the fans want to see those characters together. I don't mean Happy and May, I mean Spidey with the MCU."

"What you read isn't always indicative of where things are at now," he added. "As a fan, I'm cautiously optimistic, holding out hope that this isn't the final chapter of this story."
