Analysts forecast a swift backlash to President Donald Trump’s decision to move the US Embassy in Israel to Jerusalem and to recognize the city as Israel’s capital even before the announcement took place, and a day later these prediction have been confirmed as protests erupted across the Muslim world.
Though the Palestinian cause may not be as powerful of a call to protest as it has been in years past, both Wednesday and Thursday saw widespread demonstrations and skirmishes as people took to the streets from Jerusalem to Pakistan.

Palestinian protesters gathered at Jerusalem’s ancient Damascus Gate, where they were met by Israeli police officers. The Palestinian Authority called for a general strike on Thursday, and Palestinians complied — shops in the Old City remain closed.
