Then-White House advisor Jared Kushner was taking a shower when House GOP Leader Kevin McCarthy interrupted him with a troubling phone call about the riot at the US Capitol.

Kushner testified about the call in a video deposition shown during Thursday night's hearing from the House Select Committee investigating the January 6, 2021, insurrection.

"So I heard my phone ringing, turned the shower off, saw it was Leader McCarthy, who I had a good relationship with," Kushner said. "He told me it was getting really ugly over at the Capitol, and said please, anything you could do to help, I would appreciate it."

The call would have come at some point between 2 and 3 p.m., according to the timeline of events from the day of the attack.
